I over-committed today. I wanted to squeeze in the Kentucky Academy of Nutrition and Dietetic's "Nutrition Fuels Wellness 5K" to benefit God's Pantry (I'm passionate about health and wellness, so this was a must-do activity for me), the Nest's Bippity Boppity Boutique, and also attend Keeneland with friends today. I figured out a way to get all of them worked in while supporting both causes and getting to finally spend a little down time in the sunshine!
The Bippity Boppity Boutique
Unfortunately, I was not able to attend Bippity Boppity Boutique, but wanted to give back to it and, of course, make the community aware of this unique and beautiful event. It was created by The Nest to help offset the costly prom season for those young women that may not be able to afford it without just a little assistance from donations in the community (because, ladies, how many times did our prom dresses get used? We are all guilty of hanging on to these!)
"Personal shopper" volunteers help these teens pick out a dress from over 100 gently worn donated party/prom dresses or bridesmaid gowns, as well as a great selection of accessories. Marlene Davis for the Lexington Herald Leader writes about this lovely event much more poetically than I can--read all about it here: Merlene Davis: Still holding on to that old prom dress? Now's the time to give it up.
Now that I am downsizing for my move to San Francisco, I found that this was the perfect opportunity to finally give up my beloved senior prom gown. After all, I graduated 10 years ago (Yikes!) When I went to drop it off at The Nest, Sheri Estill (who is heading the Bippity event) was excited to tell me that a request had just been put in for a dress the same size, color, and style. I can't wait to see pictures and hear about the young women who can attend their prom feeling beautiful and confident without worrying about the ridiculous expenses that the night can incur!

"Nutrition Fuels Wellness" 5K and Fun Run to benefit God's Pantry
My beloved gal pal Carly Muetterties came along with me on this gorgeous Kentucky morning to support God's Pantry at this 5K race and fun run to fight hunger in our Bluegrass state. Here, we met the Academy's Adrienne Grizzell, Certified Association Executive, who told us a little bit about the organization and cause. See below for more information.
The proceeds from the race would all benefit God's Pantry Food Bank.

- Over 175 registrants signed up before the race and there were over 200 registered by the end of the morning.
- Each registration of $25 provides 4.75 meals to one individual.
- The 5K and fun run today raised enough money for 23,000 meals-- just to simply run 1 or 3 miles in perfect sunny weather. This is incredible for only the second year of the event!
This scenic race shows how simple it can be to give back to those in need. If you don't have much time to donate for a cause, why not run or walk a race instead if you are able? Even better if you can get a team together!
