Hello!
My name is Kate and I am a Lexington transplant from Ohio that has fallen in love with the city after moving here three years ago. I am embarking on a huge community service project that I would love for you and your organization to be a part of. Let me tell you my brief story.
I moved here for a 24/7, stressful corporate position in 2012 that I was unhappy in after 2 years, In 2013 enrolled in school to become a Health Coach when I realized my true passion was helping people. I left my management position for yet another good and comfortable full-time management job with a great company here that allowed me to study outside of work.
Though I enjoyed the second job, I had an out-of-the-blue interview I couldn't pass up with another corporate position, this time out of state, One of my application questions really struck me. It asked "if you had 30 days to do anything at all, what would you do?" I thought about this for days. I thought of selfish things like "eating ice cream every day while trying to watch every single listed movie on Netflix", to things like, "ride an elephant in India" and "go on a trip overseas to help the hungry". Finally, it dawned on me that I definitely wanted to do good, but why not on a local scale? Why did this need to be a huge overseas undertaking?
So I quit my job. (ok, it's not WHY I quit my job--many things led to that decision!)
But what would I REALLY do for 30 days?
Well, I could help out my community. Here, in this growing and bustling city that I have grown to love.
I have created this blog and for 30 days, I will give back in 30 ways to different organizations and individuals with the help of friends and members of the community that would like to partake in the journey. Each day, I will take photos and document the day, while making sure to spotlight the organization. This will be blasted through as much social media as I am personally capable of, and hopefully will get help along the way getting the word out from others!
On days that volunteering is not an option or a date falls through, I will find another way to help an organization and write a spotlight, such as a clothing donation or purchasing a meal for someone in need. I am also a runner, so it may involve a 5K or race that contributes to a charity. I am going to try to keep each as local as possible, though for 30 projects I may need to expand!
