After two days of not working, I have filled my schedule with planning this project, which has become a full time job in itself. What have I gotten myself into?! I'm enjoying every second of it.
In the last 2 weeks, I have spoken to so many great organizations that I didn't necessarily even know existed in our community. Each person I talk to is thrilled about this event and to be a part of it, has a story to tell me about their own path to service, or a heartwarming story about someone they know. I've almost been moved to tears a few times during these conversations. Each also gives me a handful of other organizations or people that I can reach out to-- who knew how much giving there was in Lexington? What an incredible network of "do-gooders" I am discovering! I couldn't be happier with my decision to embark upon this mission.
Yesterday, I was honored to speak with Jeffrey White to take a tour of "The Nest" in downtown Lexington. He gave me a presentation of all of the wonderful programs that are offered to parents and children, as well as a tour of the facilities. Of course, they will be spotlighted more when I go back for my day of service (we are brainstorming ideas!) I was overjoyed to start stepping foot into organizations that I will be serving, and see the faces of the hard-working individuals who are devoting their lives to help others. I can't wait to be a part of it.
***I'm still looking to bring other organizations on as well as small local business that want to provide a service for a nonprofit, have employees come help and represent their company during their day of service, as well as individuals/groups that want to help as well. I have set up events that do need groups and am taking down names for those who want to fill the slots!
Due to the interest and level of involvement (as well as a few vacations, many organizations not working weekends, etc.) I am happy to say the event is going to be a tad longer than 30 days! The "30 Ways" will still stick but it is nearly impossibly to do each in 30 consecutive days, though I want to get as close to this as possible.
