So what was the event today? Despite the seriousness of the cause, this was a really fun one where I was finally able to put my health coaching certification to use!
This information will be used for the families that these volunteers work with through CASA, who need to be very resourceful with their budgets and WIC usage. Though they are literally keeping the families safe and being used a source of support, eating well and being mindful of the cost of foods is also extremely important in the daily lives of these at-risk individuals. I'm hoping this tour will provide some relief for these families in need.
Tell Me More about CASA
Through the power of volunteer advocacy, CASA of Lexington works to ensure that all victims of child abuse and neglect are given a chance to thrive in a safe, permanent home. CASA's trained and supervised volunteers provide an independent voice for children, one child at a time, by speaking for their best interests in the family court system.
Our volunteers go through a 34 hour training series at our office here in Lexington and are thereafter appointed to a case in the Fayette County Family Court system. Once appointed to the case, the CASA volunteer interviews everyone involved. This can include any or all of the following, but is not limited to: the child, biological parents, foster parents, teachers, friends, doctors, therapists, and relatives.

Enough about Food. How Can I Get Involved with CASA?
There are a number of ways you can donate to CASA: make a tax-deductible contribution, become a board member, donate using your Kroger Rewards (did you know you could do this??), use the Amazon Smile program, and many more unique ways--click the link to see them all.
Volunteer
Due to the sensitive work involved, it takes a little more training to be a volunteer for this cause. Volunteers should be ready for the emotional effect of working alongside families and children in such controversial situations, and must be a constant rock in their lives. These children are dealing with so much change every day that the relationship consistency is key with each case to provide a sense of stability for the child. If you are interested in volunteering, click here and read more about working with CASA. Volunteers should be able to commit 6-10 hours a month for 1-2 years with the family they are assigned.
