Don't worry. Day 18 is still under way... but I had some unfinished business with a blood donation from last week.
After two phone calls from the Kentucky Blood Center and a personal email from Matt Reno, who works in Marketing, letting me know he saw my post and would love for me to come back, I promised I would return to try to donate again this week. So... here I am!

First of all, let me just say that the Kentucky Blood Center staff are not only incredibly caring and warm, but also commented on and shared my Facebook post after I wrote about the attempted blood donation. Click here for this post if you missed it.
Matt, who also happens to be the president of Bluegrass Runners and recognized my name from when I was a member 2 years ago, sent me a personal email asking me to try again. My low blood pressure resulted in being turned away for being able to donate. I'm assuming my poorly-hydrated 6 mile run that morning was to blame for the low reading, so I took the excuse to make today a rest day. After passing all the screener tests, I had to wait about 15 minutes for 3 different phlebotomists to try to find a vein in my little arms. |
They didn't listen. Thank goodness, because they found one and it was smooth sailing from there (after my little squeeze ball rolled away and needed to be rescued because my arm fell asleep from the tornequet--oops).
Bobby, my phlebotomist, was kind enough to double as my photographer to document the success.
And then for the best part.... Snacks and juice!!! I whipped up a little Arnold Palmer for myself (classy, right?), snagged some peanut butter crackers, and sat for a few before heading home.
Thanks to the staff for their lovely hospitality and making the donation painless!
